What might make chigurh from no country for old men an effective character

McCarthy uses ‘chigurh hadn’t taken his eyes from him. The man looked away’ as a way to describe the shop keepers personality.

The way how chigurh talks to the shop keeper is in a very blunt way like when the shop keeper says ‘ you all gettin any rain up your way’ and he responds with ‘and what business is it of yours where I’m from, friendo?

Their is some roll reversal at the start of the peice how the shop keeper talks and asks if there is any rain up where he lives but after that it’s chigurh that does the talking and asked loads of questions like ‘ what time do you go to bed’ and loads more questions like that and the shop keeper gives a blunt answer like ‘nine thirty’

Another intense peice is when chigurh has a coin and flips it and catches it and the shop keeper doesn’t want tho call it ‘call it?’ ‘For what’  ‘just call it’ well I need to what it is were callin here’ and then it goes to ”you’ve been putting it up your whole life.’ At this point it has the reader very interested in the book thinking chigurh is going to kill him no matter what it is. You can also tell the shop keeper is very startled and scared.

  1. Good use of evidence and analysis of particular characterisation techniques.

You need to go into more depth on the effect analysis of your evidence in order to achieve the discovery badge for this piece of work. Also try to identify the specific techniques that McCarthy is using in each piece of evidence.
