The power is kept by Napoleon through a number of methods the most important one from my perspective is Napoleon is intimidating because he is very strong and has got a big body and dogs that are very scary and black mails all the time i know this because Napoleon says “bring snowball alive for a bushel of apples and bring him dead for half a bushel of apples”.
This creates an image of the humans on top of the broken windmill with one arm up proud of destroying it and really proud of how angry the pigs will be and as you can tell they wasn’t happy at all.
Napoleon keeps his powers by getting his dogs to do every thing for him so like fight for him and scare people of because In the middle of chapter five it says “enormous dogs wearing brass studded collars came pounding down in the barn and dazed straight at snowball.” And snow ball got his tail bit and then escaped and slipped through a hole. He loves his dong so he made a flag singing beats of England.
I also think that the other way he keeps his power is because of squealer, squealer always runs around sticking up for Napoleon saying “Napoleon is always right.”and bravery is not enough.” this makes Napoleon feel smart and very proud of himself. This shows that squealer takes Napoleon’s side and helps him keep his power.
Napoleon is very convincing he always thinks of a way to convince every one these are some examples he plays on there fears a lot and he also gets squealer to do it he plays on there fears quite a lot as he always brings out the dog with there big teeth and also they growl very loud to imitate people and make them scared and run of like snowball as the book says he slipped through a hole and went off even though he comes back and destroys the windmill he’s scared for life in case the dogs come back and hurt him.
also boxer really trusts Napoleon as he doesn’t do anything without him and Napoleon sets the dogs on boxer and you can tell boxer is strong because he says “shall i kill them or spare them. this proves that you cant have power without force and Napoleon has a very strong horse on his side and a very convincing pig which is squealer and himself which is very convincing as-well and he is also a pig.
i think that the humans take a large part of this book only because the fact of they took down the windmill.

Billy,
I’m mighty impressed with the quality of this work in relation to Animal Farm. You are demonstrating a wide range of methods used by Napoleon to maintain his power. I’m very interested in how Napoleon and Squealer use language to maintain their control over the animals. Do you have any more examples to help me understand this better?
Mr Murray must be a great teacher!

I agree with Mr Waugh Billy, you’ve obviously taken a lot in here and you have explored the relationships between the characters well.
I’m pleased to see you making such an effort.
How are the relationships and power struggles between the characters shown in the language?

Excellent start Billy, I would agree with both Mr Waugh and Mr North’s feedback and squealer needs to be your next area of focus. Follow their suggestions for this.
Also, you need to edit the analysis part of your first paragraph as napoleon didn’t destroy the windmill himself but he certainly profited from it… How do you think he did?

i dont think he destroyed it i think that the humans destroyed it.

So far Billy, you have been awarded the ‘Analysis Essay’ badge for this piece of work.
In order to get your work up to the next level, you need to follow the following targets:
1) Try to explore a number of different feelings that the other animals might have when this tactic is used upon them. What might they be thinking when this happens?
2) In order to reach the ‘This is Novel’ badge, we need to make links to the wider themes that Orwell was discussing in Animal Farm. How might these tactics be used in the real world? Where have we seen them in history or in the modern world?
